One week...

Well, Nick will be one week old in a few hours. He is sitting in his bouncy chair in front of the fire with me, while Susan reads a bedtime book (Alice in Wonderland) to Lux upstairs. Nick is doing great. He is feeding well, if a bit more slowly than Lux who ate much more quickly than average. Susan's painful nipples seem to be improving and they seem to have settled into a routine. Nick is also pooping slightly less often, which is nice. We just gave him his first bath, which he screamed through, and he is very clean and good smelling at the moment. He is sleeping quite well, sometimes just waking once to feed at around 3 AM, after Susan feeds him a 11 PM before we go to bed. He then gets fed at 7 AM and then often hangs out with me or cuddles with Mom while she gets some extra sleep. These last couple of days he has also had substantially more alert time than during the first few days when he was pretty much sleeping all the time. We never really understood why nearly everyone who saw Lux when she was a baby immediately said "She's so alert", but now we get it since Nick has been much harder to catch with his eyes open.

Lux has been an amazing big sister. She frequently comes up and rocks his chair for him, and often asks to hold him, which she does very gently. She even comes up, unprompted, and gives him a kiss on the head from time to time. Today, she had a great time getting pushed down the street in her new tricycle, which she absolutely loves, at least until she gets distracted by a kitty hiding under a car. The other super cute thing she has started doing is requesting an egg every day around 4pm. She likes them cooked over-hard, and Susan bought a pancake/egg mold in the shape of a cat which Paul uses to make the egg. Today she used all her verbal skills she could muster and said "egg nyah nyah" right about 4:30. She calls cats "nyah nyah"s.

Today is also the last day I'm taking off work, at least for the moment. It has been a great week, getting to spend a lot of time playing with Lux and getting to know Nick. Susan's mom arrives tomorrow night and will stay for a few weeks to help out with things as Susan finishes her recovery and adjusts to life with two kids at home all day.
