Our philosophy
Have a good time, all the time, that's my philosophy MartyViv Savage
Well, it is pretty boring just posting that nothing has happened yet, but if I don't post something people will think it is because she's gone into labor, so I figured I'd backtrack a bit since we didn't have this blog throughout our pregnancy. First topic, our labor and delivery philosophy.
We really didn't know much going in and since we've had a couple of losses, labor was the farthest thing from our mind up until about 20 weeks (at which point we had had a good amnio and lots of ultrasounds). But at that point we had to face the fact that Susan was going to have to push this little girl out into the world at some point. Since that time, we've have become very educated by reading books, magazines, online message boards, blogs, watching about 10,000 episodes of "A Baby Story" and "Maternity Ward", talking to many women about their birth stories, and taking a Bradley Method childbirth class. We have decided to go for a non-medicated, natural childbirth. We'll be at a hospital for delivery so we know that every kind of medical intervention we could possibly need will be available, but we really believe that for most normal births, no interventions are necessary. We also realize that every birth is a unique experience and what works for one woman at one birth might not be the best thing at some other birth. So, we won't feel like a "failure" if we end up with drugs, or even a C-section. We'll be very happy knowing that we made an informed decision that was right for us at that particular time. If you are interested in the Bradley Method, check out this page. Basically it stresses education, relaxation and preparation. It's a bit like Lamaze, but without all the "he he's" and "ho ho's".
