Was it the Eggplant?
Paul and I saw the midwife this morning, totally expecting to be told that no measurable progress had been made. After all, in spite of all our efforts, I haven't been having any contractions. And I have always said I knew I would be late - I was betting on a Fourth of July baby. Much to our pleasant surprise, we found that I was 100 percent effaced and 1 centimeter dialated (effacement is thinning of the cervix and one needs to be dialated to 10 centimeters to deliver). This does not, in any way, mean that labor is imminent. It does, however, mean that my body is doing what it is supposed to be doing. And the more it does without me even noticing, the better. The midwife could actually touch the baby's head, and she stripped my cervical membranes, which should help encourage things to keep progressing. With any luck this could mean we will be able to avoid the dreaded castor oil treatment.
It should be close to 100 degrees out today, but I've got to get walking, to make the most of the little progress we've made. Remember - it could still be a week or two before baby comes! A little good news does not labor make!
