Whine and Wine

Yesterday Lux had a nice calm morning, nothing like the fussy morning before. We had a great few hours together before Susan woke up and I headed off to work. Susan and Lux went to visit her friend Bevin's new baby Amon who is about a week old. Later in the afternoon, Lux got a bit fussy again but not too bad. When I got home, I took Lux for a walk. She didn't cry a bit during the walk, but she didn't fall asleep either. According to our baby books the afternoon fussiness is a result of all the stimulation of the day on such a new nervous system. They just haven't learned to filter stimuli yet. So we followed Dr. Brazelton's advice and made sure she was fed, changed, and comforted and then put her in her crib. She cried like crazy for about five minutes then suddenly fell asleep, exactly like he said! I guess she just needed to release some energy. After that, she slept great over night, feeding a couple times and going back to sleep promptly each time.

Now on to wine. One the way home from worked I stopped off at Rick's Wine and Gourmet to check out the newly released 2000 Bordeaux wines they were tasting. Judging by the 5 I tried, 2000 is a great year for moderately priced Bordeaux. But the real reason I went was to ask a question. I want to buy Lux 6-12 bottles of some 2003 vintage wine that will age for 18-21 years and she can enjoy at special occasions like graduations, birthdays, or her wedding. Talking to the guy at Rick's (Rick himself wasn't there), it looks like the weather this year in Bordeaux might not yield the most ageworthy wines. He suggested I buy the Penfold's Grange when it is released, but since the 1998 Grange was just released (at $200/bottle!) I won't have to buy it until she is in kindergarden. It is sold in nice wood 6-packs which would make the perfect gift, though. Anyway, I'm still on my quest for the perfect 2003 vintage wine gift, so send suggestions if you have them.
