Sleep is for babies... Other babies.
Sorry for the long hiatus, but we've all been busy. I took a five day trip to Hawaii for work and Susan had to wrangle Lux all by herself. I kept in touch by mobile phone and got to see her via video chat as well. Lux has been doing her best to remain unpredictable. We thought we had napping under control when she made the transition from three naps to two pretty smoothly. Then, she decided - on her own - that she was no longer interested in her "dream feed" at 11pm. I guess it just wasn't worth the hassle. But, babies being what they are, this ideal state lasted about one day. At the moment, she is having real trouble napping at all, often having only one nap, plus a few periods of rest on mom's chest while watching Teletubbies or Oobi. Even when she is tired, trying to put her to sleep in her crib results in an extended period of shrieking while standing at the end of the crib rattling the bars. She falls asleep in your arms immediately upon being picked up, only to start shrieking again when you put her down. Hopefully this hatred of going to sleep will be a short-lived phase. At least she is doing pretty well once she finally falls asleep, typically sleeping from 7:30pm to 6:30am or so.I brought her a few things from Hawaii to play with including some shells and coral, and a set of toys for playing in the sand. With the weather improving rapidly as spring arrives in DC, it will be time for me to start on my project of building her a sandbox in the backyard, so the new toys will come in handy.
Physically, Lux continues to impress. She is a high velocity crawler, stands up any time she gets to a vertical obsticle, and goes up stairs easily. She has stopped falling down the stairs for the most part but still needs a bit more work to master turning around and decending backwards. However, she still lags in vocal abilities. She really doesn't have any consonants at all. Mostly she just says "ahhhh" a lot. Hopefully she'll figure out "ba" and "da" and "goo" like most babies her age.
She is looking forward to a visit from Grandma Paula and Grandpa John next weekend. Hopefully we can all get out and enjoy the cherry blossoms.
