Snow Day

Well, today we got the first good snow of the season here in DC, so I stayed home to shovel the driveway this morning. Naturally, we took the opportunity to do a little sledding in the front yard, and here is a movie of Lux and I going down our little hill.

Yesterday was our third swimming lesson together. This week, we finally went out and got her a swimsuit (Hawaiian themed, of course) and she looked great. This class marked the first time we took the babies under the water (think Nirvana album cover). Lux withstood this treatment amazingly well, and we did it about a half dozen times during the class. She seems to be getting very comfortable in the water. Unfortunately, the teacher said they are trying to cancel our class because we only have two students and four is the minimum. Hopefully if it is canceled, we can switch to the Saturday morning class. We'll keep you posted.

On a somewhat wisful note, over the last couple weeks, Lux seems to have weaned herself from the breast. This should be good since it is right about the time we had been planning since before she was born, and her little tooth keeps getting bigger and sharper, but Susan still feels a bit sad as this special bond between Mother and daughter is broken. Correspondingly, we have been increasing Lux's repertoire of foods and have started cooking up vegetables for her to eat instead of the goop that comes in those baby food jars. She loves the carrots with dill, and was so-so on the cauliflower with nutmeg and cream. We'll keep trying different recipes.

On other note, we had our first professional baby sitter on Friday night. We hired Missy (who is the day nanny for Juliana, Lux's friend from down the street) so we could get out to our friends' Jay and Michelle's Italian wine tasting party. It was both fun and strange being out without the baby, but the wine was fantastic. This Sunday is Superbowl, of course, and I think we're going to try to bring her along to the party we are going to and see if she'll go to sleep in the bedroom around halftime.
