Trying to crawl
".,mkm brhbhn [p'phtyuhjb"Ok, so Lux got to type the first line of the entry today. She has her own keyboard to practice with, but evidently still needs work before she is the kind of quality writer her mother is.
Lux's current activity is trying to crawl. She can easily push up to the crawl position and she always wants to try, so she won't sit still and play much anymore. The problem is all of her efforts only result in her going backwards, away from what she is trying to get (read eat, mangle, grab, destroy). This causes a great deal of frustration and playtime now involves a lot more screaming than usual. Today she crawled about 6 feet backwards, wailing the whole way. I expect that very soon she'll figure out forward crawling, which will make her much happier, but that will be the end of those easy days with an immobile baby who can be left in one spot without worrying. I guess it is time to start babyproofing in earnest!
We've also been having a bit of a sleeping problem. She still naps well and goes to bed easily at 7-8 pm. The problem is that she's been losing her pacifier in the middle of the night. This causes her to sit there in a half awake state crying and whimpering until we come in and replace it. Then she rolls onto her side and goes right back to sleep for another hour or two. We figure we need to break this habit, but aren't quite sure how. She rarely uses a pacifier during the day, and she has shown some interest in sucking her thumb, so maybe we can transition her from paci to thumb and then she'll be able to comfort herself at those times.
