Big Day!
Well, it's official... Lux is walking! We've had one year and three weeks of a baby with limited mobility and destructive powers, but those days are over. Over the last few weeks Lux had been experimenting with walking, doing a lot of "cruising" and taking a couple of tentative steps to get from one piece of furniture to another. Twice in the last few days she had taken little six step walks. Then, this morning she it finally clicked. Numerous times I stood her up on one side of the room, walked away and she walked right on over to me! I made three videos of the fun, so I'll try to post those on the site soon.Last week we had a really nice visit from Grandparents Dan and Jane who stopped by on their way home from a great trip to France. Lux immediately felt comfortable with them and they were great with her. I think that the regular video chats with the really did help Lux to know them. Susan had a pretty bad cold and needed lots of rest, so their visit was perfectly timed. They did a great job taking care of Lux and I even got to go in to work on Friday. Lux was well behaved and sleeping well, except for one outing to see the WWII Memorial and lunch at Old Ebbitt Grill. She got upset when we got to the restaurant and cried unconsolably throughout lunch and the whole drive home. We tried everything but never figured out what the problem was. Once she had her nap, she was totally back to normal.
Since then we have been having a few sleep problems where Lux is tired and will fall asleep in your arms but starts screaming as soon as she is laid in her crib. She also woke up this morning at 4:30 in a similar mood. We tried to let her cry it out but she screamed for quite a while so we brought her into our bed where she slept just fine. I think that sleep disruptions are common when a baby learns big new skill like walking. Hopefully we can work through it fairly quickly.
