Teething Biscuits are Really Messy

It has been a busy week here, beginning with the visit from Uncle Mike, Aunt Devi and cousin Hera. While we were thrilled to see Mike and Devi, it was Hera who really made the visit for us. Since the beginning Hera has been our test baby. When we were just beginning our pregnancy, Devi was nearly finished with hers and she shared some great advice. My favorite bit was that pregnant women are allowed all the dairy fat they want, so go ahead and eat ice cream (or frozen custard!) every day. Once Hera had arrived Paul and I were able to take her for a test drive, trying out strollers and the Baby Bjorn. Now we have an idea what it will be like when Lux gets older. The short answer is a lot of fun but a lot messier. We took plenty of photos of the cousins together (new pictures are up, so don't forget to check them out), took in a Bowie Baysocks game, went to the park, visited the monuments, Aunt Karen's office, the Smithsonian and more. It was a great visit, and we can't wait to see them again in November when we go out west for Big Game.

Labor day weekend started with another Bowie Baysocks game - this one was Remember the 80s night, so there was no chance we weren't going to go. Aunt Karen came along and we met up with friends Dorlisa and Brandon. Highlight of the night was seeing the Dukes of Hazzard's Cooter with the General Lee. A close second was buying the helmet of cheese fries, eating the fries then making Lux wear the helmet to protect her from foul balls. On Saturday we watched college football on television. Lux is beginning to enjoy television (or at least she can see it) so we are thinking we had best begin to enjoy it a little less, but college football doesn't count as TV watching. It is more like a responsibility. On Sunday we had a little barbecue with Aunt Karen, our neighbors Peter and Linda and Paul's colleague Suneel and his wife Kristen who we had never met before and who had the unfair advantage of knowing a great deal about us because she read this blog. Today, Labor Day, we are planning on shopping. Lux needs a toy chest and Paul needs new glasses.

New baby tricks - Lux likes to play the tongue sticking out game. She initiates it and smiles like crazy when we respond. She is beginning to realize she has hands and she uses them to hold on tight to blankets and clothes and her own hair. She also slept through the night on Saturday night, and I am not just talking about midnight to 5 am. It was probably just a one time thing, but it sure was nice.
