California Girl, Part 2

Wednesday was taken up by a drive down to San Diego to visit Susan's parents. The traffic was terrible, but the carpool lane was a godsend and we weren't too late getting there. We stopped first at Grandpa George and Norma's home in Rancho Bernardo.
This was a nice visit since they were the last grandparents to get to meet Lux in person and Paul hadn't met Norma yet. They have a lovely home with two dogs, some cats, and the world's largest tomato plant! George and Norma took us all out to a great dinner at a super steak house where Lux charmed the waitress, as usual.

We got to spend the next day with Grandma Jane at her house. The weather in San Diego was perfect, as usual. We got out to do some shopping for the BBQ, ate at El Indio, an excellent Mexican place with the world's best tortilla chips, and stopped by Grandpa George's office to visit. That evening we had a nice BBQ at Jane's house where several of her friends (Joan & Jere) and neighbors (Helga and Jim Moore) got to meet Lux. A few of our San Diego friends came over as well. Stephen and Melissa who we hadn't gotten to see since the Vegas Wedding. Natasha, who was an NRL summer student, and her boyfriend Nathan. They had just moved to San Diego the day before! Biff and Kris brought a special treat, their daughter Kaitlyn who was born just a month before Lux.

We started off Friday with a nice lunch down at Seaport Village, then suffered through a long, grueling drive to LA (one of the two cities with worse traffic than DC). We finally made it and settled in to Grandpa Dan and Noonie's home. They had just completed a renovation of their bathrooms and our guest bathroom was amazing and luxurious.

Saturday we did a lot of strolling around on the 3rd Street Prominade. We went shopping at Fred Segal and the grandparents bought Lux a couple of super cool outfits. It is amazing how much cooler LA style is than the East Coast. Lux will be the hippest chick in the neighborhood!

On Sunday, we had a BBQ and Lux got to meet the Frankel family (Bob, Susie, Tracy, & Greg), and Paul's friend Kaice and his girlfriend Klejda (I probably spelled that wrong!)

Finally on Monday, after a very long, but really enjoyable, trip, we got to fly home. Lux had a couple of moments of fussiness, but we had a very understanding seatmate, and she quickly settled down and slept for the whole flight. At home we got to check out the hurricane damage from Isabel, which had hit on Thursday night. The only issues were a few broken trees and limbs that we spent most of Saturday chopping up.

Interestingly, the time change seems to have shaken Lux's schedule a bit and she has been sleeping through the night since we got home. She usually goes to sleep around 9-10pm, then she get a "dream feed" at 11pm or so when we head up to bed, and she hasn't been waking up until around 7:30am! This is a welcome development, to be sure!
