Gallbladder, shmallbladder...

Well, Susan had been having some serious abdominal pain this week, so on Wednesday she called our doctor and described her symptoms. He said it sounded like she had gallstones, and she needed to go to the ER. So, I came home and off we went. Turns out he was right. Susan's gallbladder is full of stones and one had managed to block a duct and was causing liver problems. So, she was in the hospital over last night. This morning we talked to the surgeon and her bloodwork shows that the liver function is returning to normal so the offending stone may have passed on its own. Still, she is scheduled for surgery today to have her gallbladder removed. Hopefully they will be able to do it laproscopically and the recovery won't be too long.

This is an issue for Lux since she had never had any food other than breast milk. I've tried formula twice now and she doesn't want to take it. It is going to be an interesting few days since we won't be able to feed her breastmilk from whenever Susan goes in to surgery until she is off of narcotics. We do have a few bags of frozen breast milk saved up so I'm going to try mixing some with forumla to try to get her to develop a taste for formula. And Susan is going to continue pumping and dumping to try to make sure that her milk supply doesn't dry up during the time off.

If all goes well today, Susan should be home tomorrow (Friday) and recovering. The gall bladder doesn't have much use since it is just a little storage reservoir for bile and she really shouldn't miss it. And I'm SURE she won't miss the pain of a gall stone passing!

I'll post more updates as things progress...
