Lux Ray - Socialite
Lux's social calendar has been full, full, full. We did manage to take a little time to recover from our whirlwind tour of California (and do some hurricane clean up) but we've been quite busy otherwise. I'm thinking of buying her a Blackberry for Christmas.Highlights include -
Baby's First Yoga Class - Admittedly, very little yoga seems to get done, what with the crying and breastfeeding and such, but Lux and I are enjoying our class at Sun and Moon. Some of the moms I recognize from my prenatal days while others are new and Maya and Alexandra from our Bradley class have started coming as well. Lux was the only girl in the first class we went to (I like those odds!) but participation seems to vary a good deal from week to week. Lux has already progressed to inversions and shoulder stands, albeit with a little help from me.
Baby's First Office Party - Lux joined the folks from her father's office at a Bon Voyage lunch for Cindy. She got the chance to be held by all and was her charming self. Afterwards she came antiqueing with me, an afternoon which was marred only by a diaper event that resulted in Lux going pantsless for the rest of the day.
Baby's First Movie - Thanks to Lowes cinemas having a baby doesn't mean the end of the movie date. Every Tuesday they have a matinee for parents with infants. We saw School of Rock. Lux was very well behaved, although there was one slight diaper accident that caused us to miss part of the film. Luckily I remembered to pack a clean outfit in her bag. Funny how it seems like we need those extra outfits a lot more than others.
Baby's First Neighborhood Picnic - We got to show off Lux to the neighbors and try our luck at bingo as well. She was too young to enjoy the moonbounce, but loves the swings (photos available). Proving ourselves to be less than stellar parents Paul and I managed to cut one of her toes at the beginning of the event, and though Lux didn't seem to notice she did bleed like a stuck pig the rest of the day. Even so, she looked very cute in her posh Fred Segal outfit. Unfortunately, there was an incident that forced us to remove the pants before the day was done. I'm sensing a trend here.
Baby's First Playdate - We went to our friends' Marty and Lauren's house to play with Juliana, who is six months older than Lux. The age difference seems vast now, but knowing they will be in the same class in school we're starting up the friendship early. A good time was had by all and the fact that Juliana is Lauren's second daughter is a bonus for me. It's always great to get tips from someone who has done it all once before. No real solution to the exploding diapers issue, however.
Baby's First E-mail - It turns out that she has the exciting opportunity to get involved in a pyramid scheme run by someone with very little grasp of the English language. Just what we needed to fill up her college fund.
Baby's First Video Conference - Thanks to our new iSight camera, Lux can now be seen live by grandparents on the West Coast. The first trial attempt was made with Grandma Paula and Grandpa John and though the set up took a while it was a complete success. They got to watch her play with her ball. And sit up. And model the sparrow shirt I embroidered for her before she added her own touches to it. (That's right. Poo stains)
On the milestone front Lux has been sleeping through the night until 7 am or so since we returned from California. We appreciate this a great deal. In addition, she is using her hands fairly well now, reaching for toys and feet and great handfulls of mummy's hair and all kinds of other things. Her favorite toys are a little dolly, a rainbow worm, a parrot with crunchy wings and a super cool ball. During the last two days she has been practicing her newest trick - the raspberry. And we bought a big bag of size 2 diapers. Hopefully they'll solve our embarrassing little problem because I'm tired of doing the laundry.
