Adventures in Mobility

Lux seems to be really hitting her stride now. She is a great walker and she makes coming home from work really special. Each day when she hears my car, Susan open the front door and Lux walks out the door and down the walkway to greet me! She really doesn't seem like a baby at all anymore. She's also been sleeping really well. She still takes two naps a day, but has moved her bedtime up until 8:30pm or even a bit later. She sleeps through the night and usually wakes up around 7:15, which works great for me. She has even been getting a bit more adventerous when it comes to eating. We went to a Korean buffet (Hee Been, if you live around here I highly recommend it) and she tried several different things and ate lots of soba noodles and interesting rice dishes. She still has a big time love of fruit, but we have found that she will also eat various soups that have noodles, chicken, meatballs and such in them. She still loves the chicken patties that Susan makes as well. Eating should keep getting easier as more teeth come in. She doesn't like to let us look, but we've been able to spy some new molars coming in.

Another thing she can't get enough of is books, much like her Mom. She keeps bringing books over for us to read to her. Sadly, she isn't very patient and keeps turning the pages before we can read the words on them. Maybe she just reads faster than we do. :-)

We've also been starting to go out a bit more and have been trying some babysitters. She did great with Cecilia, a college girl from down the street when we took Karen out to see Spiderman 2 for her birthday, but that was during the day. Last week we went out to try a great new restaurant (Ceiba) in DC and Lux got to have her first pajama party at her friend Juliana's house. However, she didn't seem to think that sleeping in a strange place was such a good idea and she was sitting up with the nanny watching TV when we got back at 10:30 pm or so. Luckily for us, this didn't mess up her schedule as much as it would have when she was younger. She went to sleep as soon as we put her in bed and just took a couple of longer-than-normal naps the next day.

One trouble that we did have this week is her first serious bout with diaper rash. It got pretty bad and made diaper changes very painful for her, but we followed Aunt Vanessa's advice and coated her with tons of Vaseline and got it under control in just a couple of days. Her newfound mobility has also made it more difficult to get her to sit still. Grocery shopping has become an adventure where the seatbelt is totally useless at keeping her sitting in the cart. This leads to a lot of carrying her around. This is increasingly difficult as she keeps getting heavier, tipping the scales at 22.5 pounds today.
