Our Little Biped

Well, its been a week now since Lux started walking and she has gone from being able to walk across the room to walking everywhere. She no longer crawls at all. Of course, her balance could still be improved upon, so she often tumbles, but she just gets right back up again. Paul thinks she looks like Frankenbaby, and I'll admit she doesn't exactly glide across the room, but we think it is darn cute anyway. On the plus side, she walks slower than she could crawl. On the negative side, she'll only get faster and better.

She is also getting more destructive, and has learned to open drawers that were previously too difficult for her to open. Time to break out the baby-proofing kit again. On the milestone front it appears as if bottom teeth numbers three and four are on their way. It has been difficult to tell because Lux doesn't like us to look at them and really isn't fond of us feeling for them. We had long been suspecting (hoping) that she was teething again because we've had a few bumps in the road to good sleep, but today I managed to spy some actual evidence.

We've been spending a lot of time outside when it isn't too hot or raining, and these past few days have been unbelievably nice. Lux really likes roaming about in the front yard and watching the traffic go by. Today we spent time outdoors at Sage's house celebrating his first birthday. Lux was very shy when we first arrived, a little phase she is going through, but she warmed up soon enough. Before long she was terrorizing Liam by stealing his sippy cup and hogging all the toys. Then she found the rain barrel that Adam and Deborah have on their patio and was happy to play for the next hour. It's funny how much she likes to play with water because she has been complaining mightily when we try to give her a bath. It has gotten to the point where we might as well just hose her down in the yard because it is more pleasant for all parties involved.

Last weekend we celebrated Karen's birthday by going out to a movie. Lux celebrated by having a babysitter. It was our first time using this sitter and all went really well. We were pretty excited about finding this girl because she lives just down the street, but she told us she is going back to college in a few weeks. Thankfully she has a sister, because we are hoping to get out a little more with having to rush home before Lux turns into a pumpkin.

We've been decreasing the number of bottles Lux has a day, working on weaning her to solid food, but it has been slow going. She currently has three, morning, afternoon and night. At noon instead of a bottle she has a sippy cup of milk, which she is more likely to taste than actually drink. We have eliminated her dream feed, more or less, but she has needed it a couple nights these past weeks, which may be because of the teething. With less milk she seems to be eating more food, and a larger variety, though she is most likely to eat fruit, pasta and bread. Even so, she is more willing to try other things and has eaten some meats and such, so we do have hope that she'll won't grow up to be the world's pickiest eater. Maybe in the top ten, but not the pickiest.
